Here's an example of a horrible piece of news that really makes you stop and wonder both about human nature, and about how to protect your family and your home a little bit more effectively. (Seriously, after reading this, I considered having steel plating put into my automatic garage door. No joke.)
On Tuesday morning in a little place called Weston Ranch in Stockton, four innocent people were pretty badly injured during a shooting at a garage party.
The Police Department have come forward to report that all of the victims were actually in attendance of a party in the home of a friend. The party was being held in the garage, and at around 1:48 AM, someone knocked straight on the garage door. One of the residents of the hosting home went outside (around the long way) to investigate while keeping the garage door shut. When he reached the outside, he was shot in the leg. Then, many more shots rang out, pinging against the garage door, several of which penetrated it. Now, the Police department did not report what kind of material the door was made of, but the best guess is likely tin or something equally flimsy. Weak wood could be penetrated, steel is less likely.
Three of the people hit were quite young: a seventeen year old teen, a young woman of eighteen years, and a young man of eighteen years.
Luckily, their injuries were not life-threatening, but one must imagine they were quite terrified. The shooter was described by the host (the one shot in the leg) as a man dressed in black with a black hat, be he could no be described in detail. The rest of the partygoers never saw him, as she shot them through the door itself.
These kinds of incidents are always extremely shocking.
