Garage Door

People's relationships with their garages vary across time. James, a resident of the state of New Jersey, has a three
car garage at his home. His family does not have three cars, and attributes the
fact that they have a three car garage to the fact that they have a really big
house that is also pretty old. Since they have a three car garage and only two
cars, James and his family are able to store a lot of stuff in the garage,
ranging from clothes that they are not currently wearing to Christmas
decorations to different pieces of equipment used for various home improvement
projects. The garage is not attached to their home, and they do not have a
garage door opener, noting that everything has to be done manually. The fact
that everything has to be done manually irritates James sometimes. There are
moments where he wishes there was a garage door opener so that he would not
have to approach the garage, get out of his car, lift the garage door, get back
into his car, and park the car.

Being from a state that gets inclement weather during the
winter months, James and his family have had to deal with the inconvenient
reality of waking up and discovering that their garage is blocked but a large
amount of snow, which they have had to shovel before being able to access their
cars. Having decided that this was too much of a hassle to deal with, James says
that they no longer park their cars in the garage when the weather is bad and
either park in the driveway or on the street. James’ situation highlights one
of the downsides of having a garage in a region that faces severe inclement
weather, but with a clever solution such as this, the negatives basically disappear.
