Garage Door Security

In the new age of electric garage door openers, security has become even more crucial for homeowners ho want to protect their possessions.
In blockbuster movies like Gone in Sixty Seconds, garage door opener signals were used to rob from homeowners without having to use the remote. As a result, precautions were taken to prevent this nefarious behavior.
In terms of security, there are pros and cons to having garages that attached to ones home and those that are not. For one, with an attached garage, potential thieves have access to one's home, giving them even greater incentive to burglarize home with an attached garages. However, garages that are not attached also face their own sets of dangers. They could theoretically be broken into without the homeowner even knowing it or becoming aware of it for a few days.
In addition, security is compromised by older garage doors that use universal codes on their garage door openres, allowing other openers to use the same signal to open the garages of dozen of homes at the same time. You have to be sure to flip the switches in your garage door remote to change the codes. If you're not sure how to do this, you should contact your garage door company repairman and request that they give you instructions over the phone on how to do this.
And lastl,y a good old fashioned padlock can really go a long way to protecting your home. Unless your door is extremely flimsy, if it's locked shut manually, there is almost no way for a robber to access it short of ramming their car into the door or something like that.
You should take as many steps as possible to secure your home, and the garage door is just one step.
