Garage Door Decorations

Although very artsy and detailed decoration on garage doors is not for every family or every homeowner, and not for every home, it can definitely add a huge amount of curb appeal to the right house, and generally add flavor and a certain quaintness and style to a neighborhood.
The thing is, you have to make sure you match the door to the rest of the house. For example, a super flat-planes, futuristic, metalwork looking house with sharp corners and smooth planes and racing lines isn't going to look good with a cottage-style garage. You have to invest in something with windows, maybe lit from within, maybe some frosted glass. Hard horizontals and perpendiculars to add to the angularity of the rest of the house, to bring out the artistry of the lines.
Or a home with detailed scroll work and delicate little embellishments around the window panes, the kind of house with booming-huge doors and spiring roofs: that's the kind of house that could do with a carraige-style door, maybe made so that the wood can how through, maybe with old-fashioned handles on the sides (even it if opens automatically.) While both of these doors I just described would be very cool to have on your home, you have to make sure that you are matching the right garage door to the right style of home, and even to the right neighborhood. If you live in Beverly Hills, an ornate door will look fine, btu it may be out of place in cul de sac land. If you live in the highlands, you can much more easily get away with a futuristic looking seaside home. It all depends on your location, the scenery, and the other houses. If you're not sure, you may want to think about perhaps consulting with an expert on this topic.

Garage Door Opener

Samantha, a resident of the state of Illinois, has a three
car garage that is attached to her house. Her family has three cars, so they
use most of the space for parking their cars, but there is a little space left
to store stuff in the garage as well. Most of the people living in Samantha’s
neighborhood have garages as well. Samantha and her family store a wide range
of items in their garage, such as their lawnmower, various household supplies
like power tools, and clothing that they no longer wear. Samantha’s family has
never had a garage sale. Samantha has a garage door opener, but does admit to
issues that come up in inclement weather. She says that they have a keypad to
open the garage but sometimes it freezes when it gets cold, which makes it
difficult to access the garage and the cars within it.

Additionally, Samantha
says that there are many times when it snows or when it is just very cold when
the sensor on the garage door opener does not work. When the garage door opener
does not work, Samantha says that she and her family have to get out of their
cars and manually open the garage, which can be a struggle in and of itself,
especially if the garage door is frozen. In times such as these, two people may
be needed to open the door. Snow can definitely play a role in Samantha and her
family’s interactions with their garage. If too much snows falls within a
certain amount of time, Samantha and her family will have to shovel out their
garage to access their cars, which is both time consuming and irritating, and
this is separate from the battle they may have to face with the garage itself
once they reach it.

People's relationships with their garages vary across time. James, a resident of the state of New Jersey, has a three
car garage at his home. His family does not have three cars, and attributes the
fact that they have a three car garage to the fact that they have a really big
house that is also pretty old. Since they have a three car garage and only two
cars, James and his family are able to store a lot of stuff in the garage,
ranging from clothes that they are not currently wearing to Christmas
decorations to different pieces of equipment used for various home improvement
projects. The garage is not attached to their home, and they do not have a
garage door opener, noting that everything has to be done manually. The fact
that everything has to be done manually irritates James sometimes. There are
moments where he wishes there was a garage door opener so that he would not
have to approach the garage, get out of his car, lift the garage door, get back
into his car, and park the car.

Being from a state that gets inclement weather during the
winter months, James and his family have had to deal with the inconvenient
reality of waking up and discovering that their garage is blocked but a large
amount of snow, which they have had to shovel before being able to access their
cars. Having decided that this was too much of a hassle to deal with, James says
that they no longer park their cars in the garage when the weather is bad and
either park in the driveway or on the street. James’ situation highlights one
of the downsides of having a garage in a region that faces severe inclement
weather, but with a clever solution such as this, the negatives basically disappear.

Garage Doors in Rain

Garage Door in the Rain

Even though it's the midsummer solstice today, bringing the longest day of the year and the very shortest night (in the Northern hemisphere, at least), that doesn't mean that the sun is exactly shining everywhere. In fact, it happens to be likely raining cats and dogs outside in many places across the United States. And maybe with all the barbecues and fireflies and warm summer afternoons, you've forgotten that summer also brings summer showers. And these showers can be fun: warm, inviting, maybe something small children like to splash around in, a cool relief from the beating hot sun, and opportunity to curl up with a mug of coffee or tea.
But incessant rain can also be a problem for your home in many ways. For example, the constant presence of dihydrogen dioxide (water) can cause excessive oxidation of your garage door opener parts. This rust can cause stickiness, jams, and even make your door stop working all together. In fact, it can be very dangerous for you to have a rusty garage door: it's more likely to fail and fall, or to trap your car inside, or even worse.
If it's been raining a lot lately, you should probably check all of the lubricated metal parts of your garage door nearly daily to make sure they aren't accumulating any rust. If they seem to, wipe them down, dry them, and apply oil. The lipids in oil repel water molecules and should help to keep your door in perfect working order.
Another issue is flooding. If the downpour has been just torrential, you may very much want to make sure your garage doesn't get flooded. That can result in a lot of water damage to your possessions.
So while you enjoy the summer warmth and the gentle patter of rain, do check on your garage door every now and again to make sure everything's going swimmingly for the summer.
