Today was gray and gloomy, therefore making it much more difficult to stop random pedestrians in the street. Nobody wants to talk to you when its overcast and disgusting out. It's like the whole world gets a littler meaner.
So, tired of trying to flag down people along the center street, instead I hovered in a coffee shop and scouted out possible friendlies. I asked one older gentleman what he thought of garage doors, and he said,
"Well, can't say I think much about them, young lady. What an odd question," and then he went back to reading his newspaper in that half-open-mouthed way that older people do that's just shy of adorable but definitely a little amusing.
Then I asked the barista herself. She quirked her eyebrow at me and gestured to the line. "I think I don't care about them that much?"
"Come on. Just say a few words that pop into your head when you think of them."
"Okay. Um. Driveway. Opener. Button. Basketball. Trash cans. Spiders."
"Wow, that's wonderufl," I assured her. "Thank you very much."
"Is this some sort of psychological test?" She asked me, while mixing up soem guy's mocha drink.
"No..." I said.
"Well, is it an art project?"
"Kind of," I said. "I'm not really sure what it is. Let's call it groundwork. Let's call it investigative investigation."
After that she started talked to people at the register so I wandered away.
When I finally decided to get myself a coffee, the same barista girl wrote my name down as "garage door" on the cup and gave me a wink. Then the guy who made my drink drew a little doodle of a garage door, which basically looked like a lot of rectangles.
"Civilized' humans sure do like rectangles, I thought.
