Garage Door Disaster

Although it would be nice if everything simply always worked perfectly all the time, this is simply not the case. As is the case with anything else in this world, sometimes things can go wrong with a garage door or a garage door opener. Not all of these are deadly disasters, and some are just funny, but it can be quite problematic. Keep an eye out for these problems because they can really throw you for a loop.

1. Door opener misfire. If there's something wrong with the radio communication between the remote and the opener driver, your door might just randomly open and close when you don't want it to. That can be a huge disaster if there's something in the way, or you're not home and it randomly opens. You could lose out on security.

2. Wooden door crack. If you have a pretty old wooden a garage door, chances are it hasn't been treated with the most modern varnishes and covers, in addition to just being old and weather-worn. When doors get up in age like this, they can actually start cracking. These cracks can be quite dramatic, and happen all at once. This would be a huge  disaster if someone were near it when it happened.

3. Door opener belt snappage. Garage door openers often operate using chains or belts that do the work of pulling the door open and letting it close. It is rare, but possible for one of those belts to just snap. That could lead to a huge disaster, up to and including your door just ocming crashing down. Very dangerous.

4. Speaking of things that can snap, the springs on a opener can actually break. This is also dangerous, because those things contain a lot of stored energy, and that can just launch out.
