So Who Will Greet the Aliens?

The other day there were reports sweeping the Internet that a Malaysian astro-physicist named Mazlan Othman would be named the “United Nations Ambassador to Extra-terrestrials.”  Turns out though that this was a standard internet rumor of the day and nothing more.

But think about what this position could entail.  It would be the movie “Men In Black” brought to life.  Of course, there are many individuals who already think the aliens walk amongst us, usually after having had to deal with someone in a service position.

The reality is, however, that all the folks who cause aggravation to people are mainly just trying to do jobs of varying difficulty and trying to survive all the problems life throws out at everyone.  Take the garage door repairmen for example.  The garage door repairmen gets called to come and fix the garage door for all sorts of reasons and probably has to fight to keep from laughing at the reasons people need to have their garage door repaired.  For every garage door needing repair because of damage from a storm, there is probably one needing repair because the homeowner forget to open the door before trying to drive through it.  For every garage door needing repair because the neighborhood children have used it as a backstop for various types of ball games, there is another garage door needing repair because of being bumped by the snow plow or lawn mower.

And who knows?  Maybe when the aliens do come to earth on a visit it will be to study the various earth architectures.  They will look to Earth as an example of societies that build homes in most every way possible, using local materials or materials from far away.  And the technology they will bring will change how folks on earth do things.  Maybe the aliens will finally bring the jet car technology that was prominent in the 1950s looks to the future, showing that George Jetson was only a few decades ahead of his time.  The technology will change how the garage operates of course, as the garage door will possibly be on the roof rather than at ground level, although the ground level garage door will still exist, just as the Carriage house doors and stable doors still exist even in these days of cars and trucks.

Maybe Ms Othman really was named a UN Ambassador to the Aliens after all, and the powers that be just want to keep it a secret while the new technology is studied and prepared for earth markets.  That’s not too fantastical is it?
