Police in
the Caves Beach area have warned residents not to rely on the old-fashioned
(that is, non-existant) garage door security that thet are used to. Theives
have been breaking into homes in the area recently, including the home of Katie
Rae, who had more than three dozen antique and one-of-a-kind jewlery pieces
stolen, including items veyr near and dear to her heart and some family
heirlooms.
Tony Tamplin, the Senior Constable in the area, has instructed homeowners
to take secondary precautions, including high-tech garage door opener systems
and intruder detection methods. Even an old-school padlock on the garage door
is better than leaving it up to chance.
You
certainly don't want to be put in the same position as Ms. Rae, who returned
from a vacation to find her family jewelery gone, including her very expensive
engagement ring, and the rings that belonged to both her mother and her
grandmother. The irony is that many of the stolen pieces would likely not fetch
much on the blackmarket, or even sold on eBay.
Ms. Rae has
been devastated.
Constable
Tamplin admits that most people, when thinkoing of securing their homes, only
think of their front door and don't even consider their garage door a point of
entry. The fact of the matter is, although the doors are heavy and large, it's
easy if hte remote control is left outside, or if the their has a coe-grabber
and the garage is an older model.
Invest in
an upgrade to secure your family and your belongings. From time to time, there
will be waves of people trying to make a living off of breaking into people's
garages.
