One thing we haven't talked a lot about on this blog is taking care of garage doors that involve glass. They are a wonderfully striking addition to a home, look fantastic, let light in, and are generally just a bonus. But they require a small amount of maintenance.

You can't waste the value of natural light on dirt! Make sure to keep your glass windows properly cleaned or you might as well install those ugly artificial lights. Scratched or dirty glass only makes unsightly shadows and grimy visuals. You should use windex or a similar product, as well as a soft squeegee, and a towel to dry. Make sure to do this regularly, because the hazards of the outside will undoubtedly dirty them quite often. And don't use hot water, because that could crack or fissure the glass.

Don't forget- if your windows are tinted, don't use any cleaning products that contain ammonia or ammonia derivatives. Make sure you check the ingredients! This can ruin your tint and your windows.

Beware of strong fumes when cleaning windows (or anything in general) because they can be hazardous to your health or even make you faint.

Also, inspect your garage door windows regularly, maybe once every six months. Check for cracks, fissures, chips, or water damage around the frame. The windows are more likely to get damage than the rest of the door. And even a very small amount of damage could compromise the structural integrity of the window and make it much more likely to shatter in the future.
