Keeping yourself fresh and open to new ideas promotes psychological and physical well-being. Keep and open mind and an open heart all year round in 2010- keep all doors open to yourself. This includes making sure your garage door opener will continue to function throughout the new year.

There are a few basic steps you can take to ensure optimum performance of your equipment. Make a cursory examination of the hinges, brackets, springs, and fasteners. Examine the door tracks and make sure all of these parts are free from dirt and grime, and holding up structural integrity.

If your rollers have been worn out, replace them. If your brackets are bent, straighten them. Double check the security of all nuts and bolts to make sure no part is in danger of coming loose.

If hinges and metal rollers need lubrication oil them. Do not oil the tracks themselves. Make sure you're using a silicone-based oil, not traditional varieties. The garage door springs themselves should be lubricated with WD-40.

If you want to make sure your spring, close the door all the way and then yank on the release chain to disengage your garage door form the opener. More on spring checking to follow.
