The history of garages, and garage doors part 3
In parts 1 &2 we covered how the need for a garage arose, what the original garage doors were made of and how they were fastened to the garages, and how the home garage as opposed to communal garage came to be.
Now we will explore the inventions in garage door technology.
The next great invention along the road of garage door history was the advent of tracks for the doors, the original tracks ran across the top entryway to your garage and your doors simply slid from side to side, this was an amazing feat being that now your garage door did not take up any space in front of your garage that you used to have to allocate for garage doors swing, but this posed a whole new dilemma being at the garage doors slid from side to side you essentially had to have a garage that was double as wide as your car so that the door when slid to the side could accommodate your car.

The next leap in garage door design technology came with the advent of vertical garage door slicing, what they essentially did was create a garage door and then slice it up vertically in sections place hinges on the sections, fasten it tracks that now didn't around the corner into the garage in this way your garage door would slide on tracks from the center outwards with the doors curving around the corner, this eliminated the need for a garage that was double the size of your car.
